The Utah Motorsports Campus was the site for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series Rd 5 and 6. The weekend qualifying went smooth for McGrath’s Maxxis Tires, ICON Vehicle Dynamics, Safecraft safety equipment #2, taking the top spot both days and earning 2 valuable points. With a very disappointing inversion of 6 (both days), Jeremy would start on the outside of row 3. “Saturday’s race was exciting and I felt like we could take the win from row 3. I got up to third place then had contact with the # 36. We both spun in the rhythm section and I ended up 4th. Sunday was the same starting position in sixth. My Maxxis tires were hooking up and I was pushing to the front of the pack, but only managed to finished in the 4th spot today. It was not our best weekend of racing considering we qualified 1st both days. Those inversions of 6 are killing us! Track position is everything in short course racing. We will keep working hard for this Championship, I know we have what it takes and my team is dedicated to win.” Jeremy said after he got out of his truck on Sunday. The fans in Utah were great and stayed late into the afternoon to get autographs and take selfies with Brock and Jeremy!
Yamaha Blu Cru, ICON Vehicle Dynamics, AIRAID, Maxxis Tires backed #921 was on rails all weekend in Utah! Brock Heger had an amazing weekend, leading every lap of competition in a stacked field of drivers. “I love racing this Yamaha! It’s such a fun class because the UTV’s are all so close. You can pretty much guarantee close racing and battles every lap. I was happy to get out front and not make any mistakes this weekend. Jason Weller was on my bumper all weekend, it was good to see him grab a second place finish. Big thanks to my Dad and Brian, the Weller team, ICON guys, Yamaha Cru and the JM2 team for all the support this weekend. We had a lot of work and late nights to keep the cars on the track.” Heger said after Sunday’s race. With back to back wins this weekend Brock has extended his points lead in the class.
Pro Lite racing proved to be more challenging for Heger this weekend. The #12 truck ran strong, but some early contact and bad luck kept Brock from finishing during Saturday’s main event. On Sunday, Brock managed to rebound and work his way up to the third place position. Heger now stands 13 points behind Jarret Brooks, putting him in second place for the championship. With his competitive nature and thirst for another win, you can count on Heger gunning for the top step of the podium at the next event in Wheatland, MO, that’s a fact.
Team ICON’s Eric Barron rolled into Utah for Rounds 5 and 6 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series with the goal to have the fastest truck of the weekend. During the first three practice sessions on Friday, Eric proved to be quick and consistent landing inside the top three during each session. During Saturday’s qualifying session the #32 truck landed in the third position. As he started the race everything was looking good, the track was very chunky and dry, although the truck was not set up for those conditions he still brought home a solid 4th place finish.
On Sunday morning Eric qualified in the number one position, a full half second faster than the rest of the field. He pulled a number 6 on the inversion, which is the least desirable starting position. After some pre-race setup changes, the #32 was performing awesome during Sunday’s main event. Eric worked hard to advance his way towards the front of the pack until an incident had him tangled up with the #17, here’s a rundown of what happened in his words: “On lap 10 I went underneath the #99 and he had to check up because the #21 checked up. I was already committed on my turn and bumped the rear of the #99 which made the truck over rotate. The #17 was behind me and had no place to go (I believe he did have a choice to lift off the throttle) but he proceeded to drive over me like a monster truck which ended both of our days. You win some and you lose some.” Although he was unable to finish the race, the #32 set the fastest lap of the entire weekend and was awarded the Optima Fast Lap Trophy.
